Who we serve

Your body has changed. Your studio should understand that.

Body Evolutions is a Pilates and GYROTONIC® studio in Campbell, California built for adults 40 and older. We specialize in bodies that have lived full lives and are ready for a different kind of movement practice.

You belong here

Whether you are managing the effects of years at a desk, recovering from an old sports injury, adapting to a joint replacement, or simply noticing that balance and strength are not what they used to be, this is the right place to start.

Teaching adults 40 and older in Campbell since January 2001.

Over 50 years of combined Pilates teaching experience.

Every session built around your body, not a generic class plan.

We see you

Bodies change by the decade, and so does the work. Here is what we most often help with, and how we approach it.

If you are in your 40s or 50s

You probably still have plenty of strength and energy, but honestly, long hours at a desk have a way of quietly stealing your youth. Maybe it shows up as neck tension from hours hunched over a screen, a nagging low back, or feet, knees, and hips that just ache from too much sitting. A lot of our students this age are also still carrying around an old sports injury: the shoulder that never quite healed right, or the knee that lets you know when the weather is about to change.

For men, it is often tight hip flexors quietly throwing the back out of whack. For women, perimenopause may be starting to mess with sleep and the body in ways that catch you off guard. Either way, you are still active and want to stay that way, so we build sessions that rebuild real strength and undo what a desk-bound life has been doing to you.

If you are in your 60s

Entering your 60s often comes with its own physical shifts: maybe bone-on-bone knees, or a hip or knee replacement you have already had. Shoulders can weaken from rotator cuff issues, often tied to the hormonal changes of menopause, and your hips and shoulder girdles may feel stiffer, not moving quite like they used to. Some of our students are also navigating early arthritis.

Many women come to us with hip pain, often the result of weak glutes, sometimes paired with one hip sitting higher than the other, discomfort sleeping on your side, or pain that reaches into the knee. You may also be noticing the first signs of balance becoming less reliable. However these show up for you, we know how to work with these realities rather than against them, so you can move confidently within them.

If you are in your 70s

Your 70s can bring some real physical changes: maybe a bit less energy than you used to have, some new balance concerns, joint stiffness or arthritis, changes in posture like kyphosis or scoliosis, bone density changes like osteoporosis, or a general sense of losing strength or flexibility due to muscle loss.

Everyone’s experience is different, and you may be dealing with all of this, some of it, or none of it at all. Wherever you are starting from, we are here to meet you there, focusing on preserving the strength, mobility, and stability you already have, while gently working together to help you reclaim what may have been lost along the way.

If you are in your 80s

Your 80s can bring their own set of physical changes: maybe hip or knee pain, a balance that feels less steady than it used to, or a harder time turning your neck to look over your shoulder. Weight shifts may take a beat longer to respond, ankles can stiffen up and lead to more of a shuffle in your step, and your spine may feel harder to move through, where extension, rotation, and side bending all take more effort. A weaker core and tight low back can also pull your posture into a forward, rounded shape over time.

No two people arrive here the same way, and whatever combination of these you are feeling, or none of them at all, we meet you exactly where you are, with patience and precision, to help you move through your days with more ease and confidence.

If you are navigating a specific condition

We have deep, hands-on experience with clients managing Parkinson’s, recovering from cancer treatment, living with scoliosis or osteoporosis, and rebuilding after knee or hip replacement surgery. We also regularly work with sciatica, chronic back pain, arthritis, bursitis, and the early warning signs that, left unaddressed, tend to grow into bigger problems down the road. And when physical therapy ends, we pick up where it leaves off. These are not conditions we occasionally encounter. We know how to work with them thoughtfully and safely, session after session.

Aging backward

Here is what we have learned after decades of doing this work: our clients get older in number, but younger in flexibility, strength, mobility, and mindset. When someone hits a milestone in their practice, a movement that used to feel impossible or a balance challenge they finally conquer, we tell them the same thing.

“You’re aging backward.”

What we tell our clients and what we watch happen

That is not a figure of speech to us. It is what we see happen, again and again, in the bodies and the confidence of the people we work with.

Why we are different

We are not a general fitness studio that happens to have older clients. We built Body Evolutions for this population, and we have been doing it since 2001.

Chris and Sonia are the owners and lead teachers, and we are still on the mats and reformers ourselves: still training, still learning. Together we bring over 50 years of combined Pilates teaching experience, and Sonia has been teaching since 1996. This is not a side interest. It has been our life’s work for a quarter century, and we understand the aging body in a way that only comes from decades of hands-on experience.

How we grew

Body Evolutions started with a small community of adult ballroom dancers who wanted to move better and dance longer. They told their friends. Those friends told their friends. Over the years, when other studios in the area closed their doors, they sent their clients to us, because they knew we would still be here, doing this work, year after year. That stability is something we take seriously, and it is part of why so many of our clients have stayed with us for decades.

What this means for you

Every session is built around your body, not a generic class plan. We understand:

  • How to modify movement for a hip or knee replacement.
  • How to build strength safely around osteoporosis or scoliosis.
  • How to address balance without fear.
  • How to help you feel steady, strong, and capable again, whatever your starting point.

Every new student begins with three private sessions, so we learn your history and your body before anything else. From there we will tell you honestly what we think will help, whether that is continuing one-on-one or moving into our four-person MOVE classes.
